Wild Blueberry Picking on an Island on a Lake
You can have this title in only a few places on this earth. Fortunately, we live in one of those places. This is an ideal way to spend a hot, July day. Sorry for the quality, these were taken with my LG4 phone. It does a servicable job, but not quite like my Canon.
We pulled our kayaks into this sheltered spot, really a channel between two islands. Notice the enormous glacial boulders that line the island's edge. It was a small landing area, and the blueberry bushes were higher up on the rocks. It took a bit of climbing and maneuvering to get to them.
Effort =s reward. How about these? Wild blueberries are smaller and more intensely flavored than mass-produced blueberries. It's hard not to eat half of the pickings, especially given it was so hot in the sun.
Here was the view from my picking spot.
This is how clear this glacial lake is. The end of the rock ledge is the perfect jumping off spot for sweaty blueberry pickers!
I think you can imagine how delightful this dip was. Once I am in, it is hard for me to get out. My husband calls me "Water Baby" for my love of swimming. Can't wait to come back next weekend to get the last batches of berries.
